Base oil is the main ingredient of every lubricant. Group I solvent refined grades are named by their viscosity: SN 150 is a light neutral for engine and hydraulic oils, SN 500 a heavy neutral for gear and industrial oils, and bright stock the heaviest cut for greases and marine oils.
